Commercial Espresso Machines · Astoria
The Astoria AB200 is one of the most practical compact commercial espresso machines in Astoria's current range, and Di Pacci USA stocks it in three sizes. In this review we cover what the AB200 does well, who it suits, and exactly how the 1 Group, 2 Group Compact and full-size 2 Group differ on boiler size, power and footprint, so you can pick the right one before you buy.
Astoria espresso machines are made by Astoria Macchine per Caffè in Susegana, near Treviso in northern Italy. The AB200 belongs to Astoria's "Blend" family of practical commercial machines and follows a design brief the company sums up as form follows function: a clean, compact body with a working area laid out so the barista's movements are short, fast and repeatable.
Where Astoria's flagship machines target showpiece specialty bars, the AB200 is built for businesses that want dependable Italian engineering, programmable volumetric dosing and an easy daily workflow without a huge footprint. All three share the same 633 mm depth and 490 mm height, so moving up the range changes only the width, boiler size and number of groups. You can see every Astoria model we carry on our Astoria espresso machines page.

These figures come from Astoria's official AB200 specifications. Depth (633 mm / 24.9 in) and height (490 mm / 19.3 in) are identical on all three.
| Model | Groups | Boiler | Rated power | Width | Net weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AB200 1 Group | 1 | 5 L | 2,700–3,200 W | 468 mm (18.4 in) | 40 kg (88 lb) |
| AB200 2 Group Compact | 2 | 7 L | 2,800–3,300 W | 615 mm (24.2 in) | 51 kg (112 lb) |
| AB200 2 Group | 2 | 9.5 L | 4,000–5,200 W | 770 mm (30.3 in) | 56 kg (123 lb) |
Every AB200 size is built from the same core components. Here's what each one means for the person behind the machine.
A redesigned group for stable brew temperature, so the tenth shot of the morning tastes like the first.
Sized to each model, from 5 L to 9.5 L, for reliable steam and hot water through service.
Program shot volumes once and every barista pulls the same drink, even across shift changes.
Clears condensed water and milk from the wand, keeping it cleaner between drinks.
Tracks output per group to help plan cleaning, gasket changes and grinder adjustments.
Switch between espresso cups and taller to-go cups without awkward tilting.
Reduces power draw during quieter periods of the day.
A USB port comes standard, and the body is designed for easier maintenance access.
Each machine also includes a hot water wand and manual steam wands as standard. If you're comparing boiler designs across brands, our guide to dual boiler vs heat exchanger espresso machines explains the trade-offs.
One reason the AB200 suits so many businesses is how far it can be customized. Astoria lists these factory options:
3.5-inch touch-screen display, Autosteamer Plus automatic milk texturing, Cool Touch steam wands and a mixed hot water outlet.
Electronic cup warmer, LED work-area lighting and LED rear-panel lighting.
Beans2Cloud telemetry for remote monitoring, cash register connection and boiler insulation.
Astoria offers the body in Deep Black, Cool Grey and White, and the ABS side and rear panels can be custom painted to match your brand. Autosteamer Plus is worth a close look if you have less experienced staff or a milk-heavy menu. Talk to our team before ordering if you'd like any of these options.
The right size depends on how many drinks you make in your busiest hour, how many baristas work the machine at once, and how much counter space you have.

1 group · 5 L boiler · 468 mm wide
The smallest AB200 is a genuine commercial machine in a footprint that fits a coffee cart, office pantry or bakery counter. With one barista and steady demand, it delivers the same group, dosing and steam features as its bigger siblings.

2 groups · 7 L boiler · 615 mm wide
The Compact is the sweet spot for many small cafes. Two groups let you pull two drinks at once, yet the body is 155 mm narrower than the full-size 2 Group, which can be the difference between fitting a grinder beside the machine or not.

2 groups · 9.5 L boiler · 770 mm wide
The full-size 2 Group is built for all-day queues. The larger boiler and higher heating power keep steam strong when both wands are working, and the wider body gives two baristas room to move side by side.
If three baristas regularly work the bar at the same time, a two-group machine will hold you back. Browse our 3 group espresso machines, or talk to our team about the right setup for a high-volume venue.

The AB200 does the fundamentals well: stable temperature from the new coffee group, programmable volumetric dosing, strong steam from a properly sized boiler, and a working area designed for speed. It's also one of the more compact ways to get a commercial Italian two-group onto a counter.
It's not the best fit if you run a specialty bar that wants per-group temperature control or pressure profiling for light-roast espresso. In that case, look at Astoria's multi-boiler Storm or the wider commercial coffee machines range. If budget is the priority, a pre-owned commercial espresso machine inspected and serviced by our technicians can be a smart alternative. Read our used commercial espresso machine checklist first.
The AB200 is a plumbed-in commercial machine, so plan for a water line, a drain and the correct electrical circuit before delivery. Power requirements rise sharply with each size, so have a licensed electrician confirm your supply, and ask our team which configuration suits your site. Good water filtration protects the boiler and keeps flavor consistent.
An espresso machine is only as good as its grinder. A 1 Group can work with a compact on-demand grinder, while a busy 2 Group needs a fast, consistent commercial grinder. Our commercial coffee grinders buyer's guide walks through burr size and throughput.
Backflush the groups, purge and wipe the steam wands after every drink, and soak portafilters and baskets at close. The shot counters make it easy to schedule gasket and shower screen changes. Follow our step-by-step guides on how to clean an espresso machine and how to descale an espresso machine.
