Di Pacci — Dual-Boiler Commercial Espresso Machine — USA

La Marzocco GB5 S — 2, 3 & 4 Group

The La Marzocco GB5 S is the Linea's bigger, better-insulated sibling, built for high-volume cafes that want scales, a digital display and a water sensor on the bar.

Every GB5 S has dual insulated boilers, saturated groups and dual PID control, plus a digital display, 24V electronics and a sensor that reads the hardness and conductivity of incoming water. It comes in 2, 3 or 4 groups, each as semi-automatic (EE), auto-volumetric (AV) or AV with integrated scales.

Where the Linea Classic S keeps things simple, the GB5 S adds the features a busy multi-barista bar actually uses: Piero group caps for steadier flow, dimmable barista lights, an easy-rebuild steam valve serviced from the front, eco mode, and on the scales version, brew-by-weight with Drip Prediction built into the drip tray.

🔥 Insulated Dual Boilers 🌡️ Dual PID ⚖️ Scales Option 💧 Water Sensor 📱 La Marzocco App ✅ UL & NSF Certified 💳 Finance Available ✅ Tariffs & Duties Included

Best for: ☕ High-volume cafes · 🏪 Flagship stores · 🔥 Roasteries · 👥 Multi-barista bars · 🚚 Multi-site chains

Key Features of the GB5 S

  • 🔥 Insulated dual boilers — separate brew and steam boilers, insulated to hold temperature and cut energy use.
  • ⚖️ Integrated scales (AV with Scales) — shots stop by weight, and Drip Prediction in the drip tray accounts for the last drops after the pump stops.
  • ☕ Piero group caps (AV) — a re-engineered water path and flow meter position for steadier flow and temperature.
  • 💧 Water sensor — measures incoming water hardness and conductivity, so you know when filtration needs attention before scale builds up.
  • 🔧 Easy-rebuild steam valve — serviced from the front of the machine, so a technician doesn't need to pull panels.
  • 💡 Dimmable barista lights (AV) — three modes (eco, on, brewing) to light the shot as it pours.

EE, AV or Scales: Which Version?

All three versions share the same boilers, groups, dual PID and water sensor. The difference is how each shot is dosed.

  • Semi-automatic (EE) — the barista starts and stops every shot. The lowest-cost GB5 S, for teams who dose by eye or external scale.
  • Auto-volumetric (AV) — programmed doses stop each shot by volume, with Piero group caps and barista lights.
  • AV with Scales — everything in the AV, plus scales in the drip tray so shots stop by weight rather than volume.
  • Our pick: AV with Scales for specialty bars where yield matters; AV for high-volume milk-based service.

Weight is a more reliable target than volume, because crema and grind changes throw volume off. If your baristas already weigh every shot, the scales version takes that job off them.

Compare Sizes & Versions

Size EE AV AV with Scales
2 Group $19,930 $23,370 $26,980
3 Group $22,340 $26,800 $31,270
4 Group $25,270 $30,240 $35,050

Di Pacci recommendation: a 2 or 3 Group AV with Scales is the sweet spot for a specialty cafe. Don't bother with the GB5 S if you don't need scales, a display or a water sensor; the La Marzocco Linea Classic S brews from the same dual-boiler, saturated-group design for less. If you want scales in a Linea body, look at the La Marzocco Linea PB.

Who the GB5 S Is For

  • ✓ High-volume cafes running two or more baristas through long rushes.
  • ✓ Specialty bars that want shots stopped by weight (AV with Scales).
  • ✓ Operators who care about uptime — water sensing, auto backflush and a front-serviceable steam valve.
  • ✓ Flagship and roastery bars where the machine is part of the room.
  • ✓ Multi-site groups wanting app monitoring across stores.
  • ✗ Small sites — there's no 1 group, and even the 2 group is 30.3 in wide and about 150 lb. Look at the 1 group Linea Classic S.
  • ✗ Standard power — it needs a dedicated 30 A (2 group) or 50 A (3 and 4 group), 208–240V circuit.
  • ✗ Sites without plumbing — this is a plumbed-in machine with a drain, no water tank.
  • ✗ Pressure-profiling setups — the GB5 S has no paddle or flow control.

GB5 S FAQ

What is the difference between the GB5 S EE, AV and AV with Scales?
The EE is semi-automatic, so the barista starts and stops each shot. The AV stops shots by programmed volume and adds Piero group caps and dimmable barista lights. The AV with Scales adds scales in the drip tray so shots stop by weight, with Drip Prediction allowing for the final drops.
What power does the GB5 S need?
It runs on 208–240V single-phase, 60 Hz. The 2 group needs a dedicated 30 A circuit, and the 3 and 4 group need 50 A. Have an electrician confirm your circuit before delivery.
Does the GB5 S need to be plumbed in?
Yes. It's a commercial machine with no water reservoir, so it needs a water supply line and a drain. Its built-in sensor reads incoming water hardness, but you still need water treatment matched to your local supply.
Is there a 1 group GB5 S?
No. The GB5 S comes in 2, 3 and 4 groups. For a single-group commercial La Marzocco, look at the 1 group Linea Classic S.
How is the GB5 S different from the Linea Classic S?
Both are dual-boiler, saturated-group machines. The GB5 S adds insulated boilers, a digital display, a water sensor, auto backflush, an easy-rebuild steam valve and a scales option, in a larger body. Call us on +1 (646) 774-0590 if you're deciding between them.
Is the GB5 S app compatible?
Yes. It connects to the La Marzocco app for dose, brew temperature and usage statistics, and has a USB port for firmware updates.
How big and heavy is the GB5 S?
All sizes are 25.2 in deep and 18.5 in tall. Widths are 30.3 in, 38.2 in and 47.6 in for 2, 3 and 4 groups, and weights are 149.9 lb, 172 lb and 231.5 lb.
