Description

Di Pacci — Dual-Boiler Saturated-Group Commercial Espresso Machine

La Marzocco Linea PB (AV) Coffee Machine

The La Marzocco Linea PB (AV) is the modern Linea: separate coffee and steam boilers, saturated groups and auto-volumetric dosing for cafes that can't afford an inconsistent shot.

The La Marzocco Linea PB (AV) is a dual-boiler commercial espresso machine with saturated groups, built in Florence in 2, 3 and 4 group versions. A dedicated coffee boiler feeds the groups, a separate steam boiler handles milk, and dual PID controllers hold both temperatures electronically.

AV stands for auto-volumetric: each group has programmable dose buttons, so your team can repeat the same recipe from opening to close. The digital display shows shot timers, boiler temperatures and system alerts, and the Linea platform's long service history means parts and technicians are easy to find in Australia.

Key Features of the La Marzocco Linea PB

🔥 Separate coffee and steam boilers

Steaming milk for a rush never pulls brew temperature down, because the coffee boiler only does one job.

☕ Saturated groups

Each group is bathed in water from the coffee boiler, so the group sits at the same temperature as the brew water.

🌡️ Dual PID control

Coffee and steam temperatures are held electronically and can be adjusted from the display rather than a pressurestat.

💧 Auto-volumetric dosing

Programmable dose buttons on every group let any barista on the roster pull the house recipe.

⏱️ Shot timers and alerts

The digital interface shows shot times and boiler temperatures, plus system alerts that help catch problems early.

🔧 Proven, serviceable platform

The Linea has been a cafe workhorse for decades, and Di Pacci's in-house technicians service it with parts in stock.

Why Saturated Groups Matter in Service

On many commercial machines the group is a separate lump of brass that has to be heated by circulating water, so its temperature drifts when the machine sits idle or gets hammered in a rush. On the Linea PB the group is fed directly by the coffee boiler.

  • The coffee boiler, held by its own PID, sets the temperature of the brew water.
  • Because the group is saturated with that same water, the metal around the puck stays at brew temperature too.
  • The separate steam boiler absorbs the load from milk, so a run of lattes doesn't disturb the coffee side.

The result is a shot that tastes the same at 7am, in the 10am rush and at close, which is exactly what a cafe running a single house blend needs.

What's in the Box

  • La Marzocco Linea PB AV espresso machine (2, 3 or 4 groups)
  • Portafilters and filter baskets for the groups
  • Water inlet and drain hoses
  • La Marzocco documentation

You'll also need a commercial espresso grinder, a water filter or softener suited to your water, knock box, tampers and milk jugs.

Linea PB 2 Group vs 3 Group

Most cafes choose between the 2 and 3 group. The 4 group (2 × 3.4 L coffee boilers and a 14.5 L steam boiler, about 1.19 m wide) suits the busiest bars.

Feature Linea PB 2 Group Linea PB 3 Group
Coffee boiler 3.4 L 5 L
Steam boiler 7 L 11 L
Heating elements Approx. 4600 W Approx. 6100 W
Width Approx. 711 mm Approx. 953 mm
Weight Approx. 81 kg Approx. 93 kg

Di Pacci recommendation: Choose the 2 group for most cafes running one or two baristas, and the 3 group if you regularly have two baristas brewing and a third steaming. Don't bother with the Linea PB if you are fitting out a home or a quiet office; the La Marzocco GS3 gives you the same dual-boiler, saturated-group approach in a single group.

Best Grinders for the Linea PB

A Linea PB will expose a tired grinder straight away. Budget for an on-demand commercial grinder for each blend you serve.

Grinder Burr Why it pairs well
Mazzer Major VP 83 mm flat Programmable on-demand doses and twin cooling fans for a steady grind through the rush
Fiorenzato F83 Electronic 83 mm flat Large flat burrs and electronic dosing suited to a busy espresso bar
Mazzer Robur S Electronic Conical Conical-burr workhorse for very high daily volumes

Who This Machine Is For

✓ Ideal if you:
  • Run a cafe or espresso bar where consistency across shifts matters
  • Serve a lot of milk drinks and need steam that keeps up
  • Want auto-volumetric buttons so every barista pulls the same recipe
  • Have, or can install, plumbed water, a drain and a dedicated electrical circuit
  • Want a platform local technicians know well
✗ Consider alternatives if you:
  • Are buying for a home or a quiet office; the La Marzocco GS3 is the single-group equivalent
  • Want straight-in portafilters and steam flush; look at the La Marzocco KB90
  • Need a lower-cost 2 group for moderate volume; see the Expobar Ruggero Classic V2.0 Multi Boiler
  • Can't fit roughly 71 cm of bench width for the 2 group, or can't run plumbing and a drain to the machine

La Marzocco Linea PB (AV) Coffee Machine — Frequently Asked Questions

How many boilers does the La Marzocco Linea PB have?

Two. The Linea PB has one coffee boiler that feeds the saturated groups and one separate steam boiler; the 4 group uses two 3.4 litre coffee boilers. It does not have a separate boiler for each group.

What power supply does the Linea PB need?

The Linea PB is hard-wired to a dedicated circuit, and the amp rating and single or three phase supply depend on the group count. Di Pacci confirms the exact requirement for your unit before installation, so call (02) 9758 0760 before booking your electrician.

What does AV mean on the Linea PB?

AV means auto-volumetric. Each group has programmable dose buttons that stop the shot at a set volume, so every barista pulls the same recipe.

Should I choose the 2, 3 or 4 group Linea PB?

Choose by how many baristas brew at once at your busiest time. The 2 group suits most cafes, the 3 group suits venues with two baristas on the bar plus one on milk, and the 4 group is for the busiest bars.

Does the Linea PB need plumbing and water filtration?

Yes. It connects to mains water and a drain, and should run with filtration or softening matched to your water hardness to protect the boilers.

Is installation included?

Di Pacci offers free commercial machine installation in Sydney metro areas. Outside Sydney, we can arrange installation and advise on plumbing and electrical requirements.

Who services the Linea PB in Australia?

Di Pacci's in-house service team services La Marzocco machines with parts in stock, and the Linea is one of the most widely serviced commercial platforms in the country.
