Lelit Bianca V3 — Dual Boiler Espresso Machine with Flow Control

The Lelit Bianca V3 is the prosumer espresso machine the home espresso community keeps returning to as their reference point for what exceptional value at this level actually looks like. Dual boiler, E61 group head, manual flow control paddle, dual PID temperature control, rotary pump, and plumb-in ready — the Bianca V3 brings capabilities typically found in machines costing two to three times more, wrapped in one of the most elegantly designed Italian-made espresso machines available for home use.

The PL162T designation marks Lelit's third generation of the Bianca — and the most refined yet. Faster warm-up times, an electronic low-flow mode that simulates pressure profiles without touching the paddle, four new power management modes, and a significantly enhanced OLED display showing real extraction temperatures (not just set points) make the V3 a meaningful upgrade over its predecessors.

The E61 group head — thermal stability built in

At the heart of the Lelit Bianca V3 is Lelit's L58E group head — an enhanced version of the legendary E61 thermosiphon design that has been the benchmark for thermal stability in home espresso for decades. The E61 group head continuously circulates hot water from the brew boiler through the group and back again — keeping the entire group head, portafilter, and shower screen at stable brewing temperature before the first shot and throughout an entire session.

This means temperature-related shot inconsistency — the most common cause of variable espresso quality at home — is effectively eliminated. The E61 group head is at temperature before you start, stays at temperature between shots, and provides automatic mechanical pre-infusion as a function of its thermosiphon design. On the Bianca V3, Lelit integrates the manual flow control valve directly into this E61 group head — a walnut wood paddle sits on top and controls a needle valve that regulates water flow to the coffee in real time.

Flow profiling — what the paddle enables

The flow control paddle is the defining feature of the Lelit Bianca V3. By manually controlling water flow during extraction you can shape the entire pressure curve of every shot:

  • Extended pre-infusion — Open the paddle partially at the start for a slow, gentle puck saturation before full pressure builds. Eliminates channelling in light roasts and single origins.
  • Pressure ramp — Start low and gradually increase to peak extraction pressure, reducing aggressive initial channelling.
  • Peak and decline — Hold peak pressure through the middle of the shot then gradually reduce toward the end to avoid over-extracting the final third.
  • Low-pressure extraction — Pull the entire shot at 6–7 bar rather than 9. Often produces sweeter, less bitter espresso from darker roasts.
  • Electronic low-flow mode (V3 new) — Electronically simulates a slow pre-infusion profile at the touch of a button, without manually working the paddle. Perfect for consistent daily espresso.

Dual boiler — brew and steam simultaneously

  • 1.5L coffee boiler + 0.8L steam boiler — Completely independent stainless steel boilers, each with its own PID control. Pull a shot and steam milk simultaneously — no waiting, no thermal compromise.
  • Independent temperature control — Set brew boiler to the exact temperature your coffee needs, without affecting steam boiler pressure. Adjust for different roast profiles on the fly.
  • Dual pressure gauge at the group — Boiler pressure (0–4 bar) and live pump pressure (0–16 bar) shown simultaneously. Watch your entire extraction from pre-infusion through peak and decline in real time.
  • Cool-touch double-walled steam wand — Flexible, no-burn design. Significantly easier to handle and clean than traditional rigid wands.

V3 upgrades over previous Bianca versions

  • Faster warm-up — approximately 17 minutes from cold
  • Electronic low-flow mode — simulates pressure profile without paddle
  • Four power modes — always on, sleep, eco, standby
  • OLED display — real extraction temperature, shot timer, dose counter, water level alert
  • Displays real coffee extraction temperature (not just set point)
  • Steam boiler temperature now visible on display
  • Increased maximum steam boiler temperature for faster, drier milk texturing
  • Instant standby — hold both PID buttons 3 seconds from any mode

Design and build

Built in Italy by Lelit. The AISI 304 polished stainless steel body wraps in a single panel for clean lines and easy internal access. Walnut wood accents throughout — paddle, portafilter handles, steam and hot water knobs, lever, and adjustable feet — give the Bianca a warmth that most machines in its class lack entirely. The 2.5L water reservoir is modular and repositionable — rear, left, or right side — or remove it entirely when plumbed directly to a water line.

Is the Lelit Bianca V3 right for you?

The Bianca V3 rewards baristas who want to go deep into espresso. The flow control paddle and dual PID give you meaningful control over every extraction, but they require engagement and willingness to experiment. The learning curve is real but gentle — most users report noticeable improvements within the first week of working with the paddle.

If you want the closest thing to a commercial profiling machine at a prosumer price — and you're prepared to invest the time to learn it — the Lelit Bianca V3 is the machine most serious home baristas end up choosing. And once dialled in, it's the machine they stop looking to replace.
