La Pavoni Europiccola — Manual Lever Espresso Machine

The Europiccola has been La Pavoni's iconic direct-lever machine since 1961 — a compact, all-manual espresso experience with no pump, no electronics in the extraction itself, just a lever, a boiler, and your own technique. From La Pavoni, founded in Milan in 1905 and now part of the Smeg Group, it's built to be a genuine centerpiece as much as a coffee machine.

A 0.8L boiler holds enough for roughly eight consecutive shots, with a pressurestat keeping boiler pressure steady once it's up to temperature — around 5 minutes from cold. Pull the lever down to build pressure and extract, and steam is on tap for milk drinks whenever you need it.

About This Machine

Is this a manual lever machine?
Yes — the Europiccola is a direct-lever machine. You pull the lever by hand to build brewing pressure and extract the shot, no pump or electronics involved in the extraction itself.
How many shots can I pull before refilling?
The 0.8L boiler holds enough water for roughly 8 consecutive espresso shots before needing a refill.
What size portafilter does this use?
51mm, the current production Europiccola spec. Vintage pre-2000 units used 49mm, so parts aren't interchangeable across generations.
How long does it take to heat up?
Around 5 minutes from cold, with the pressurestat holding steady boiler pressure once up to temperature.
