Flair 58 Plus 2 — Manual Lever Espresso Maker

The Flair 58 Plus 2 is the flagship manual lever espresso maker from Flair — and the most refined version of the Flair 58 yet. Designed in California for espresso enthusiasts who want total control over every variable in their shot, the Flair 58 puts pressure profiling, temperature control, and flow rate management in your hands — literally — in a compact, beautifully built machine that costs a fraction of what an equivalent electric machine would charge for the same capability.

Whether you're a seasoned home barista chasing the perfect pressure profile or someone just starting their espresso journey who wants to understand what's actually happening in the cup — the Flair 58 Plus 2 is one of the most rewarding espresso makers you can own.

What's new in the Plus 2

The Plus 2 is the third generation of the Flair 58 and brings three meaningful upgrades over the original 58 and 58+:

  • Integrated preheat controller — The preheat system controller is now fully embedded into the base of the machine. No separate controller sitting on your counter. Everything is in one place, clean and minimal.
  • Compact power supply — The power brick has been significantly reduced in size — one of the most-requested improvements from Flair 58 owners. Much tidier on the bench.
  • Streamlined wiring — All wiring runs through the frame. No exposed cables. The result is a machine that looks as considered as it performs.

Full pressure profiling — in your hands

The Flair 58 is a direct lever machine — your hand is the pump. That means you have real-time, continuous control over the pressure applied throughout every shot. The integrated pressure gauge shows you exactly what you're delivering — from a gentle 2-bar pre-infusion right up to 9+ bar peak pressure — so you can shape the flavour of every extraction deliberately.

Want to try a Slayer-style slow pre-infusion followed by a high-pressure peak and a gradual decline? A turbo shot at 6 bar flat? A blooming shot with a 30-second pause? All of it is available, all of it is repeatable, and all of it costs you nothing beyond the machine you already own. No software, no subscription, no firmware update required.

  • Integrated pressure gauge — Threaded, rotatable to your preferred viewing angle. Shows live pressure in real time throughout the shot. Essential for learning pressure profiling and for repeating your best extractions consistently.
  • Direct lever system — 13:1 mechanical advantage means around 30 lbs of force generates 6 bars of brew pressure. Comfortable for back-to-back shots without fatigue.
  • Valve plunger design — Fill the brew cylinder with the plunger fully assembled — no need to remove anything between shots. One of the key workflow upgrades that makes rapid-fire extractions practical.
  • Magnetic shot mirror — Attaches magnetically to the post, angled to let you watch the extraction flow from the bottomless portafilter in real time. Diagnose channelling, watch the crema form, and track flow rate visually with every shot.

Temperature control — three preheat levels

The Flair 58 Plus 2's integrated preheat controller heats the brew head to one of three settings before you add water:

  • Low (~85°C) — Dark roasts. Lower brew temperatures suppress bitterness and bring out chocolate and caramel notes.
  • Medium (~90°C) — Medium roasts. The sweet spot for balanced, classic espresso extraction.
  • High (~95°C) — Light roasts. Higher temperatures help extract the fruity, floral, and acidic compounds that lighter roasts express best.

For even more precise temperature control, pair the Flair 58 Plus 2 with a temperature-controlled electric kettle — allowing you to dial in water temperature to the degree before it enters the brew head.

Industry-standard 58mm portafilter

The Flair 58 uses a genuine 58mm bottomless portafilter with walnut handle — the same diameter as commercial espresso machines and compatible with virtually every 58mm basket, distribution tool, tamper, and accessory on the market. Two baskets are included: a low-flow 16–20g basket for beginners and classic espresso, and a high-flow basket for brighter, more transparent shots from light roasts.

Portable — brew anywhere

Unplug the preheat controller and the Flair 58 Plus 2 becomes a fully manual lever espresso maker that needs nothing but boiling water and a grinder. Take it travelling, to a cabin, or to a friend's place — great espresso follows you anywhere. An optional hard travel case is available separately.

Who is the Flair 58 Plus 2 for?

  • Espresso enthusiasts who want full control — If you've maxed out what an electric machine can offer and want to explore pressure profiling and temperature dialling more deeply, the Flair 58 Plus 2 opens up a level of experimentation that machines costing $3,000+ can't match.
  • First-time home espresso buyers who want to learn — The tactile feedback from the lever teaches you more about espresso extraction in a week than months on an automatic machine. You feel the resistance of the puck, watch the pressure gauge respond, and learn what a great shot actually takes.
  • Small space, big performance — At 8" wide and 11.5" tall (lever down), the Flair 58 takes up less bench space than most entry-level electric espresso machines.
  • Travel and off-grid brewing — Fully unplugged operation means espresso wherever you go.

What you'll need

The Flair 58 Plus 2 does not include a grinder — a quality burr grinder capable of a fine espresso grind is required for good results. A digital scale and temperature-controlled kettle are also strongly recommended for repeatable extractions. Browse our home grinder range for compatible options.
